Protecting the Past

Yes, they’re cringy (or maybe wholesome), but they’re priceless. Now, you can relive those moments without worrying about aging tapes. We’ll convert them into digital files that are easy to watch, share, and preserve forever.

As proud Santa Clarita Valley locals, we love helping our neighbors rescue their memories from boxes in the garage. Let’s turn your old tapes into digital treasures you can savor and share for years to come!

Local Santa Clarita Valley Pickup/Delivery Available!

Are we actually local to the SCV?

Yes! We’ve called the Santa Clarita Valley home for nearly 20 years. Our kids have gone through Valencia High and Castaic High, and like many SCV teens, they’ve done their time working at Magic Mountain. We’ve paid our dues as AYSO coaches and referees and we, too, share your frustration with the parking at Trader Joe’s near Best Buy, marvel at the never-ending construction on the 5 freeway, and love a winter drive through Wakefield Court to see the Christmas lights. And when it comes to movies, you’ll find us at Laemmle in Newhall—because, let’s be honest, the crowd is quieter there than at the Regals.

We’re a small team of Santa Clarita locals with a passion for preserving memories. Our high-quality video setup allows us to help our neighbors digitize their cherished moments without the hassle (and risk) of mailing tapes. We offer convenient pickup and drop-off, a friendly handshake, and a fair price. We look forward to working with you!

Nope, no fancy storefront here—real estate is pricey, and let’s be honest, unlike Blockbuster back in the day, no one needs to browse a shelf of VHS conversions. To keep costs low, we work from various local spots and can meet you anywhere in Santa Clarita for easy pickup and drop-off. Simple, convenient, and budget-friendly!

FAQ

  • We can convert standard VHS, 8mm and Hi-8 camcorder tapes into MP4 and MOV formats.

  • We know that these tapes store one-of-a-kind moments. Why trust your memories to the postal service or other delivery services? We offer EXCLUSIVE pick-up and drop-off service in the greater Santa Clarita Valley area.

For a small fee, we can come to you anywhere in the valley or for NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE we can meet you at the Albertsons in Valencia (23850 Copper Hill Dr, Valencia, CA 91354) for pick up and drop off of your tapes.

  • With each transfer, you will receive:

1080p HD transfer of your legacy video files.

Basic audio enhancement & leveling - Video from “back in the day” recorded audio at a much lower volume. We’ll make sure your audio is leveled properly for modern-day TVs and computers.

Google Drive Cloud Storage of your video files (for 30 days) for download on any device/machine you wish. These files will be stored in a password protected folder so only you have access to them.

USB Thumb Drive (Optional, Small Fee) containing video files - This is a slight additional charge depending on how many video files you have. Usually about $10, but you keep the thumb drive. Note: For the safety/security of our servers, we cannot accept a thumb drive from you for use.

Private YouTube Link of your videos (Optional, No Fee) on SCV Digitizing’s YouTube page, with no expiration date. This is the easiest way to share these videos with friends and family. Note: These files will NOT be public and cannot be found without the specific private link you will have.

  • No two jobs are the same and ultimately we will provide you with a quote once we have a better idea of what your needs are. Below is a rough guide to help you estimate.

For each order, there is a $40 minimum.

Set Up Fee - For our most common package, there is a one-time $20 set up fee for all orders . This fee is required for all orders and is only charged once for up to 10 tapes or 20 hours of video, which ever comes first.

Per Tape Fee - For each hour of digitizing (typically two hours per tape) there is a $10 per tape charge. If you have more than 10 tapes, we can discuss a bulk order at a reduced rate.

Sample Fee Structure - Assuming you send in 4 tapes, with 2 hours per tape.

    $20 Set Up Fee
    +
    $40 ($10 × 4 tapes)
    =
    $60 TOTAL

  • Payment Timeline:

Once we communicate and determine the number of tapes and approximate number of hours being transferred, we will send a work order in writing. You will review, agree, and we will coordinate a tape drop off/pickup. Once the digital conversion is complete, payment is required BEFORE tapes are returned and digital files are sent. Once payment is received, we will coordinate a tape drop off and we will immediately send all digital files for your use.

    Methods of Payment:

We accept Venmo, Zelle or Paypal (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Discover)

  • Yes! Absolutely. While we obviously need to review the a sampling of the digitizing results to ensure the quality of the transfer, the contents of your videos are not used for marketing purposes* and are not displayed anywhere you have not authorized.

*We may request to use short snippets of your video for marketing purposes, and will always ask your permission in writing first.

  • While it is extremely rare, occasionally a tape is so severely degraded (usually due to storage conditions and just time in general) that playing it for digitizing purposes can tear, break or “chew” the tape itself. In the unlikely event that this happens, your tape will be returned to you and obviously you will not be charged for the digitizing of that tape. However, we at SCV Digitizing cannot be held responsible in such cases. Over time, tapes which are decades old will cease to be playable and there is no way for us to know this prior to playing said tape. Upon entering into a contract with SCV Digitizing, you will release us of any liability in such cases.

But again. This is extremely rare.

  • While there are various factors that contribute to the ultimate transfer quality - such as age, quality of the source tape, etc. - it is important to remember the following:

Original VHS recordings are ALWAYS inferior in quality to what you are used to watching in modern recordings. While we can make the transfer as high a quality as possible (even using digital tools) most recordings will contain grain, noise and “that vintage feel” you remember.

    Video Output:

We deliver all files in 1080p HD format (1920 x 1080 resolution). This is included in our base price and is sufficient for 90% of viewing experiences. We have found that upscaling to 4k format (3840 x 2160 resolution) is unnecessary given the limitations and quality of the source video. If you do require a 4k video file, that can be arranged for an additional charge.

  • About THREE business days, but depending on the quantity of tapes you have and a variety of other factors, it can take up to a week. We will give you a better idea of timing when you contact us.

  • Yes, for each order, there is a $40 minimum.

Unfortunately, we cannot take possession of (for example) 5 tapes and simply pull out 10 minutes from one tape, 15 minutes from another tape, and so on. If there were 5 tapes, each tape will have a minimum transfer time of ONE hour each.

  • If you do not need a full tape digitized there are a couple of options.

    1) You must cue the tape up to the place where you want the digitizing to start. Reminder that there is a one hour minimum for each tape, and a two hour minimum for each full order.

    2) If you cannot cue the tape up to a specific spot (because, for example, you do not have access to a VCR) we can do it for you for a small “cue fee” of $5 per tape. You must provide exact instructions about where on the tape we are to begin.

Ultimately, it is likely easier/cheaper to transfer at least a 1 hour portion of the tape from the beginning.

  • If you have more than ten tapes or more than 20 hours of footage, please contact us about a bulk order.

  • Please contact us! We are happy to talk through our process, pricing and timing for unique requests.
